Bopped into the new Babe's at Vitense after yet another Friday night hockey practice.
The new Babe's space is actually quite nice and fits right in with the rest of the updated facilities at the family fun spot. The Fish Fry is only available on Fridays and is listed at the very bottom of the menu for $15. Our fish fried in a flash, but we were still able to scarf down a couple fat, stretchy, and scrumptious curds beforehand.
The 3-piece cod wasn't anything amazing but was a nice solid rendition and exactly what I needed this Friday (being that I was a little under the weather). The fillets were light and relatively flaky, and home to a pleasantly crumbly breading. They paired well with the thinner-than-average, yet still plenty peppy, tartar.
A small portion of freezer fries sat shotgun and were gone in a flash, while a colorful little dish of slaw followed suit. Both were nice additions but I'd love a little bit more of each. No bread came with, nor was it listed on the menu.
I always felt like Babe's had a loyal following and was pretty surprised when they shut down a few years back. It's nice to see this new incarnation and they're seemingly fitting right in at their new digs - it was pretty darn busy for 7:45 on Friday. As for the Fish Fry, it was definitely decent and I'd have no problem ordering it again if I found myself playing 18 some Friday.
