I get asked pretty regularly if there are any gluten-free Fish Frys in the area, and I usually struggle to think of one. I don't typically order anything gluten-free and if places do have it as an option I never go that way. After tonight's dinner at @eatateverly I finally have a legitimate answer for these folks.
The Friday special at Everly runs $19 and is surprisingly satisfying. Most @foodfightrestaurantgroup places don't do the Friday Fish Fry thing and being that the grub at Everly slants health-conscious I had a hard time believing they'd do it justice - deep fried fish doesn't exactly scream low-cal if you get my drift. To my delight the two chunks of cod were fat and flaky, and the gluten-feee batter was light and crispy. This batter was more frizzly than decadent, but had a pleasant flavor and minimal grease. It was enhanced significantly by the thick and delicious house tartar that added a welcome contrast to each bite. Great stuff there.
The house-cut fries were sparingly plated, but what was there was good. I supplemented my supply with some from my son's side order and felt satisfied with that. The root veg slaw was incredibly unique and ridiculously fresh. It looked pretty as a picture and brought a totally different dynamic to the Fry.
Overall, I was pretty pleased with this Fish Fry, and would recommend Everly to anyone looking for a GF FFF. It's definitely one of the nicer looking plates of fish I've seen recently and truly felt "light" as far as deep fried food goes. Nicely done!
