Comment: 10 YEARS RUNNING…and it’s easy to see why.
There’s not a lot to the unincorporated community of Shopiere - a few houses, a park along a scenic creek, and a shop or two. It a nice small town, but one thing looms large - the Fish Fry at the Tap. It’s a whopper.
The Fish Fry at the Shopiere Tap is an award winner and with options ranging from cod to walleye to bluegill and shrimp, all in the $15-$20 range, it’s easy to see why. My walleye was a show-stopper - flaky and meaty with a fantastically crispy breading. The bluegill I borrowed from my boy may have been even better, and while it was likely farm-raised, its delicate texture and subtle snappiness could not be ignored. All in all, they were excellent and it's obvious why the locals love them so.
Potato pancakes are a welcome treat whenever they can be found and these homemade latkes were prepared perfectly. While I’d personally like a little more onion in the mix, the flavors that were present were profound. The tartar was equally deep and inviting with a smooth texture and tantalizing tang. A hint of horseradish perked up the otherwise standard slaw, while the slice of French bread was sufficient on the side.
When you’ve won any award 10 years running it simply can’t be a fluke and there’s no doubt the ST is deserving of every accolade it receives. Overall, we highly recommend this Fish Fry and can hardly wait for the opportunity to tap into it again.www.facebook.com/TheShopiereTap
