Comment: I can see why this place won the Potosi Best Fish Fry Appleton bracket. That’s a $17 plate, and my god, that’s a lot of fish for seventeen bucks.
The Camelot Bar and Grill has a very robust Friday Fish Fry menu. The Haddock, Perch, Baby Pike, Sunfish, Shrimp, Scallops, and Frog Legs are served Wednesday - Saturday and come in either lunch or dinner sized portions - which is a lot to process. I was a bit indecisive, and had perch on the brain, but as soon as I asked the waitress about it and she told me it was “European Lake Perch” I quickly transitioned to the baby pike with sides of fries AND potato salad.
Our waitress was very informative and let us know the fish would take upwards of an hour to fry and in the interim we enjoyed some super salty curds, a couple tall OFs, and the ambiance of the crowded bar. The fish actually arrived about 30 minutes after we ordered and was large and in charge (as you can see).
All the fish in King Arthur’s Court seemingly share the same breading and it worked really well with the baby pike. The pike was very mellow and while I can’t really be sure if it was the misnomered walleye pike or some other fish, it was easy to eat. It also paired well with the thick and zesty tartar and I ate every last bite of it.
Typically I’d choose fries over PS, but when offered one for an additional 50 cents I couldn’t pass it up. Luckily, the fries were just basic crinkles and the potato salad turned out to be the superior option. A nice slice of pre-buttered rye did its part as did a cup of well-balanced slaw.
While this isn’t the best Fish Fry I’ve ever had it might be one of the best deals I’ve seen (which I assume played no small part in them winning the Appleton crown). It’s an insane amount of fish for the price and I can hardly imagine adding two more pieces for an additional $3. Uff da.www.camelotbarandgrill.com/
